Sustainable Land Management
The use of land and natural resources is one of the central challenges of our time. The reasons are among other the climate change, the urbanization, or the change in age structure, which lead to different conflicting constellations.
To tackle these challenges, land management targets economical and sustainable land politics to develop the urban and rural space. Here spatial data and standardized processes play an important role in many areas such as e.g. cadaster or land consolidation.
Already in 1996, the UN has defined land management very well as “the process by which the resources of land are put to good effect. It covers all activities concerned with the management of land as a resource both from an environmental and from an economic perspective. It can include farming, mineral extraction, property and estate management and physical planning of towns and countryside”.
VertiGIS delivers an important contribution to sustainable land management with its LM solutions for many standard business processes. For this reason also internationally recognized standards form the basis for all VertiGIS land management solutions:
The basis for our software implementation is the relevant ISO standards. This is in the area of spatial data the norming sequence ISO 19100, handled by the TC 211 (Geographic Information and Geomatics). Important standards are in this respect Conceptual Schema Language, Spatial Schema, Spatial Reference, Application Schema, Encoding, etc.
Besides the ISO Standards, also the industry standards of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) play a relevant role for the practical implementation. The standards like WMS, WFS or GML have to be highlighted especially in this respect.
VertiGIS uses as GIS base technology in its products the ArcGIS platform from Esri.
