Battery Ventures Aquires AED-SICAD

Battery Ventures, a global, technology-focused investment firm from Massachusetts, acquired in June 2018 all shares of the AED-SICAD AG. The previous owners were Dr. Thomas Englert, CEO of AED-SICAD, and Esri LLC. Esri continues to be strategic partner of AED-SICAD AG.

In founding AED Graphics AG 35 years ago and by taking over SICAD Geomatics GmbH & Co. oHG in 2002, the now 67-year-old Dr. Thomas Englert set the course for the strategic development of AED-SICAD. “For me it was crucial that the company can continue to develop and grow in a sustainable way and in a bigger context”, substantiates Dr. Englert on his decision to withdraw from the operating business.

„For customers and employees of AED-SICAD and also for our partners from the AED Solution Group nothing will change due to the takeover“, says Dr. Englert. Until the end of 2017, Dr. Englert will remain CEO of AED-SICAD. Dr. Holger Schade will continue to serve as managing director for the company.

Battery Ventures’ private equity team has invested in many industry-specific software companies like AED-SICAD, a category of companies which generally offer customers highly specialized products as well as high-quality support and services. Current investments include Alogent, Clubessential, ClearCare, CrunchTime, DrillingInfo, Enviance, Forterro and WebPT*. AED-SICAD AG is the first company within the portfolio of Battery Ventures, which is active in the GIS market. “Previously to the takeover, Battery Ventures has analyzed carefully the GIS market. Battery Ventures has recognized that GIS as a key technology will reach an outstanding importance in many market segments. The outstanding position in the market and the sound experience of our company in the areas Public Sector and Utilities has convinced Battery Ventures” says Dr. Englert.
