German Federal State of North-Rhine-Westphalia: New Online-Shop makes geobase data quickly available
GIS Portal of AED SICAD is the basis of a comprehensive e-commerce solution
Since the release of the new online shop www.geobasis.nrw.de through North-Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister of the Interior, Dr. Ingo Wolf on April 12, 2006, in Düsseldorf, it is possible to order geobase data, like topographical maps, aerial photographs and digital terrain models 24 hours a day via the Internet.
Under www.geobasis.nrw.de, interested parties can find a detailed overview of the range of North-Rhine-Westphalian geobase data. A special advantage is, that the data are automatically provided via the Internet after having been ordered.
The online shop is based on the Geoserver of the Federal State of North-Rhine Westphalia, which is operated by the Federal Authority for Data processing and statistics (LDS) for the Federal Administration Offices of North-Rhine-Westphalia. AED-SICAD has been acting as a project partner for the LDS for a number of years. The GIS Portal framework, the new Web platform from AED-SICAD, is the basis of the solution.
One of the components of this application framework is the WebOrderSystem (WOS) for the provision and delivery of data in different raster and vector formats, which connects the production services on the server side via an order client, integrated in the Geobase data portal. The WOS features an order-processing tool, starting with online registration via the integrated digital shopping cart until the download center. Thus, the users of the geobase data portal work with the well-known and established procedures in e-commerce. The solution for electronic sales of geodata and map products, which has now recently been put into operation in North-Rhine-Westphalia, has been developed jointly by the Federal State of NRW, LDS and AED-SICAD.
The expansion of the geobase data portal for integrated Internet-based ordering processes and the automated delivery of raster and vector data as well as the integration into the e-government processes of the Federal State of North-Rhine-Westphalia by connecting it to an e-payment procedure is scheduled to be carried through in the course of 2006. For this purpose, in the GIS Portal, the WOS serves as a component to provide data in different raster and vector formats. The Cadastre Office of the German Federal State of North-Rhine-Westphalia is planning to present the enhanced solution during INTERGEO 2006 in October.
