EWR Starts Analysis of Network Data with on ArcFM UT

German utility company EWR AG, Worms, has started productive operation of their recently introduced GIS application ArcFM UT® from AED-SICAD. It is being used for network data analysis and allows EWR to efficiently evaluate their asset and network data and use this information for corporate decision making.

The extensive analysis functionality of the ArcFM UT software helps EWR to make fast and simple evaluations for maintenance and civil works, calculate investments and visualize the results. As an internal service provider, EWR's Department for Geodata has created a solution that serves the divisions for network operation, asset management and sales to make enquiries for their specific tasks.
In addition to the use via EWR's Intranet, the ArcIMS-based solution will at a later stage also allow access to local authorities and construction companies.

In 2003 EWR opted for the GIS standard application for utilities UT on ArcGIS, thus recognizing the advantages of AED-SICAD's experience in the utility business combined with ESRI's powerful base technology. The "Three-level-concept" consists of the main tasks data capture, analysis and viewing and is the strategic basis of the EWR system. As the solution comprises the sectors electricity, gas, water, sewage and basemap, the company can efficiently harmonize the corresponding networks of the different business fields. In addition, special emphasis has been attached to the integration of the GIS with the existing SCADA system as well as to SAP. Thus, ArcFM UT plays a crucial role in the business processes of this multi-utility company and opens up a series of perspectives for the strategic use of GIS in utilities.
