German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg: AED-SICAD’s LM on ArcGIS User Community Doesn’t Stop Growing
The Federal State of Baden-Württemberg in the South-West of Germany is well-known for its innovative power. Thus, it also took the straight way when introducing the new German cadastre standard ALKIS (Official Real Estate Cadastre Information System: Management of Land Tax Register, Cadastral Map, Numerical Cadastre).
In the following, some of the users are presented, like the Cities of Karlsruhe and Mannheim as well as the Surveying Office of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg.
The Surveying Office of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg
In the future, the Surveying Office is going to perform the management and qualification of the ATKIS Basis- DLM (Official Topographic Cartographic Information System; Management of Digital Landscape Model, Digital Cartographic Map, and Digital Terrain Model) for the entire Federal State with the Editor component of the LM on ArcGIS software that is marketed in Germany as 3A Editor ATKIS. In addition to the Digital Terrain Model, the software will be used for the management of the raster map as well as for updating the thematic map data. In October 2006, the Surveying Office ordered the product 3A Editor ATKIS from AED-SICAD. The software is scheduled to be implemented on 35 workplaces by mid 2007.
Karlsruhe
The City of Karlsruhe, with its 290.000 inhabitants one of the largest town councils in Baden-Württemberg, signed the contract with AED-SICAD for the ALKIS project by beginning of October 2006. AED-SICAD’s business partner BARAL acts as subcontractor. Besides the LM on ArcGIS product environment with 25 workplaces, also the GIS Portal, the Internet viewing solution from AED-SICAD based on ArcIMS®, is used for Geodata viewing in the entire Municipal administration. Furthermore, Karlsruhe also plans to manage the topographic data, which not only comprise ATKIS but also include the management of street maps, waysides, parking slots and tramway tracks etc. with AED-SICAD products.
Karlsruhe opted in favor of AED-SICAD’s integrated product range offering a homogenous monolithic GIS environment. This enables the Geodata viewing system to seamlessly access the cadastre data in the new ArcGIS-based environment. In December 2006, the ArcSDE® for central data management for Intranet viewing will be installed. Already since autumn 2004 Karlsruhe is preparing the migration towards ALKIS. With the decision for the AED-SICAD LM on ArcGIS solution, the course is set to swiftly adapt the new standard and use the GIS for all tasks in cadastre and local authorities in a profitable way.
Mannheim
In the future, the department geoinformation and surveying of the City of Mannheim, which is managing the cadastre is going to use the Official Real Estate Cadastre Information based on ArcGIS. In autumn 20 06 Mannheim opted for the AED-SICAD solution for the new cadastre standard. Already since beginning of the eighties, the authority has been using products of the vendor AED-SICAD who also accompanied Mannheim into the new product generation. The decision was based on technical examination of the geographical information system ArcGIS and the already realized applications, but finally, the existing confidence in AED-SICAD was an important factor as well.
During various trainings and workshops the responsible persons of the City of Mannheim estimated that the tasks of the community can be further fulfilled with this software. The update of the Real Estate Cadastre, however, is only one of the relevant sectors. Equally decisive is the GIS serving further purposes within the community like the municipal line network and the City base map as well as the street database and some more.
